The Pyrex Drought

After visiting 4 Goodwill stores today, I can safely confirm that there is a drought in vintage Pyrex. There was nothing! It was so frustrating. I'd rather find a few beat up pieces I wouldn't buy because at least there is hope...but nope, not one single piece.

It's either the recession or the antique dealers are getting it all. Probably a combination of both.

I just remind myself that this is part of the hunt....and finding a good piece of Pyrex will be oh so much sweeter! :-)

My Newest Find...and My Pink Collection

I love the pink Pyrex which is funny because I don't like the color pink in general. I never have. I'm just not that girly-girl. That being said, I can't get enough of pink Pyrex. Pink Pyrex is always in demand and very sought after by collector's which I'm sure is a major reason for my new-found love for pink. I love the Gooseberry pattern and the Flamingo Pink pieces.

This picture is my entire collection of pink Pyrex...it is depressingly small but I'm working on it.

The Beginning....

My obsession with Vintage Pyrex began when my MIL gave me a set of Turquoise Butterprint Cinderella Mixing Bowls and a Town and Country Oval Divided Serving Dish. They were both in their original boxes. She received them as wedding presents over 40 years ago and never used them. I thought "Okay, new bowls. Pyrex is great and I can always use those." And then I opened the boxes....

I had no idea that Pyrex came in patterns or colors. The only Pyrex I had ever seen was the clear glass. These were so pretty and my interest was piqued. What else was out there? I did what most of us do these days and hit the internet. I entered "vintage pyrex" into a search engine and was shocked when so much came up. So many beautiful patterns and colors. And they were worth a lot of money. The set of bowls I received were selling for $40-$60 for the set in antique stores. Wow!!

I started looking at garage sales and picking up a piece here or there. And I enjoyed the hunt...find beautiful pieces for anywhere from 50 cents to a couple of dollars. Then I'd run home, hit the internet to find out the name and what the piece was worth. I was hooked...

Now it's two years later, I have an entire cabinet full of Pyrex, 4 more boxes of it in the garage and I just can't stop!! I'm obsessed....I have Pyrex Mania!! :-)
